Evergreen? Deciduous? Conifer? – what is the difference?
Evergreen refers to plants that retain their leaves year round although they will still drop some leaves from time to time, their leaves will not completely shed.
A Conifer is a cone bearing plant. A pine is one since it bears pine cones. Conifers are often, but not always, evergreens and have needle type leaves. Spruce, juniper, and fir are other conifers. Boxwoods are one example of an evergreen that is not a conifer.
Deciduous refers to plants that shed their leaves. Lilacs and maples are deciduous.
