Botanical names are a more accurate way to identify a plant so if you need to be sure you are purchasing or using a certain plant find out and label the plant with its botanical name.
Botanical names should be written in italics. Calendula or Pot Marigold (Calendula) is a flowering annual also used as an herb which is unrelated to the commonly planted flowering annual Marigold (Tagetes). Lemon Mint can be the common name for true mint (Mentha) or for a variety of Monarda (Monarda).
