Do you know the difference between annual, perennial, and biennial?

Annual

– grows, flowers, produces seed, and dies within one year.  Some plants are considered annuals only in colder climates because they die due to cold temperatures.  Tomatoes and peppers are two examples of annuals that are sometimes called annuals because of cold temperatures.  In warmer climates they are perennials.

There are a few things many of us do once per year like pay taxes, register the car, watch the Superbowl, etc.  We do these things annually.  Hope that helps you remember.

Perennial

– plant which lives two or more years. Usually this term is used with non woody plants although trees are shrubs are perennials or tender perennials. Some edible perennials are rhubarb and asparagus.

Tender perennials are perennial in certain climates and annuals in others. Tomatoes are a perennial but in my climate they only survive longer if not killed by frost.   Peppers, bananas, and geraniums (actually Pelargoniums) are also examples of tender perennials.  They are often labeled as annuals in cold climates.

Biennal

– plant which flowers and sets seed the second year of its life and then dies.  Parsley and hollyhock are two examples.  If the plant is grown for leaves, harvest the leaves the first year.  If grown for seeds, fruit, or flowers these will appear the second year of the plants life.

Parsley can be harvested for leaves the first year and at the beginning of the second year.  Then flowers and seeds form and it will die.  The seeds can be allowed to drop where they are for next years parsley or you can gather the seeds and plant them immediately in the spot you want them the next year.
