After a wet spring we now have very got weather (in the 100s for days at a time). Earlier some gardens were drowning and now some are baking. Mostly mine has been doing fine which I think is at least partly due to my raised beds which drain better with rainy weather and also hold moisture better in the heat.

I showed a photo of my garden in my post When To Plant What. I now have tomatoes, peppers, and squash in that same raised bed. I harvested my first tomato a few days ago.

Remember to follow my tips about Growing Food With Water Restrictions.

Some other things to keep in mind:

When temperatures are hot at night (over 90F or so) tomatoes tend to drop their blossoms. It is disappointing to have to wait a little longer for tomatoes but just be patient. You could try providing a bit of shade during the day with shade cloth.

Liquid seaweed (kelp) has been shown to help plants be more drought resistant, disease resistant, and frost resistant. I water my plants with it and spray the leaves for even faster uptake by the plants. Remember to only water and/or spray leaves in the cooler times in the morning. Something new I am trying this year is TurbOganic My Garden which contains liquid seaweed and minerals.

Check your sprinklers regularly for leaking, clogging, and other problems which may not only waste water but prevent your plants from getting the water they need.

Check the soil moisture by sticking your finger into the soil up to your second knuckle. In most cases the soil should be just barely damp. Overwatering is just as deadly to plants as underwatering.

If you are gardening in pots be sure to use potting soil – not garden soil. Pots may need to be watered more frequently but do the soil moisture test (above) regularly instead of watering on a schedule. Pots can be moved to a sunnier or shadier area as needed.
