Is It Too Late To Plant a Garden?

If you watched me on Fox 13’s The Place you learned about a few of the things you can plant now for a fall harvest.

As the weather starts to cool towards fall, temperatures will be in the range that is great for growing all the leafy vegetables except for basil. You could still plant basil either in a pot and bring it in before frost or in the ground and just harvest whatever you can before frost. Root vegetables also will do well this time of year. Cabbage may not form a head but you can eat the leaves anyway. When we get our first freeze all of the plants listed below should be just fine. Some may even survive through the winter into next Spring. With some protection you may harvest them all winter. Perennial herbs, vegetables, and fruits can be planted now also. You may also want to check my post about When To Plant What.

If you are growing indoors you can plant anytime. Be sure there is sufficient light for whatever you are growing. Why not grow something edible as a houseplant? My houseplants include peppers, lemons, and some herbs.

Be sure to check my calendar for upcoming classes and other events.
